  2. Representatives from Liberty in North Korea (LiNK) headquarters in Torrance, CA will be showing a documentary about the North Korean crisis and about the North Korea people. The documentary will be showing REAL North Korea refugees and about what is REALLY happening in North Korea.

  2. DRAGNET GIRL (Hijosen no onna) Tokiko, played by the inimitable Kinuyo Tanaka, is a typist and a tough moll to Jyoji, a retired champion boxer and gang leader. Hiroshi, a fresh face among the members, idolizes Jyoji and neglects his school studies. Trying to keep him on the right path, Hiroshi’s sister Kazuko asks Jyoji to help her brother to leave the gang and along the way, Jyoji falls for her. (89 min, 35 mm, 1933). DJ by Arwulf-Arwulf.

  2. The Fourth Annual Romanian Film Series at UMMA kicks off with a talk by visiting director Bogdan George Apetri, followed by the screening of his award-winning film, Outbound (Periferic, 2010 at 5 pm). After the film, a Q and A session hosted by UM lecturer in GermanicLanguages and Literature Ramona Uritescu-Lombard and Bogdan George Apetri will wrap up the evening.

  1. 4:00pm-6:30pm, UMMA, Helmut Stern Aud, FREE!
  2. UM’s Dr. Corina Kesler will hold a lecture on the (mis)use of the utopian impulse for the purposes of nation-building during two distinct periods: the communist era and post-socialist Romania of the twenty-first century. Following the lecture, there will be the screening of Tuesday after Christmas (Marti, dupa Craciun) (dir. Radu Munteanu, 2010) at 5 pm, and Q and A following the screening.
