Thurs. 9/13

  1. 7:30pm, Michigan Theater, FREE?
  2. Agnieszka Holland, director. In Polish with English subtitles. (92 min., 1981) A nuanced, critical depiction of everyday life amid communist bureaucracy, the film follows a woman struggling to raise her son with little support in a small town. As her already-bleak circumstances take several turns for the worse, she embarks on a desperate plan. Banned in Poland, this was the last film made by Holland in her homeland before seeking exile in France.

  2. One of the greatest Welcome to Michigan traditions, join us for a free movie on the North Campus Diag. This year we’ll be showing “Hunger Games.” Free pizza and pop provided by the Society for Women Engineers. The show begins at 8:00pm – see you there!

Fri. 9/14

  1. 7pm-10pm, Michigan Theater, $15 Adults | $7 Members, Students, Seniors, and Veteran
  2. CJS’s Fall Film Series of 2012 features silent films by Yasujiro Ozu with professional benshi (narrator), Ichiro Kataoka, performing theatrical narration at each screening. Most films will also include a live music accompaniment. This year’s Fall Film Series will kick off with a one-night special screening at the Michigan Theater for the film, “I Was Born, But…” (Otona no miru ehon – Umarete wa mita). In addition to the main feature, Roscoe Arbuckle’s 1918 slapstick silent film, “The Cook,” will also be screened. LIVE Music: Performance by Little Bang Theory and organ performance by Stephen Warner.
