  • Samurai & Sushi: Screening of 13 Assassins w/ Sushi

  2. The Film and Video Association & Center for Japanese Studies are hosting a FREE sushi party for U-M students and faculty before the screening of 13 ASSASSINS. Come to Mason Hall between 5:30-7pm for some free sushi, then head over to Angell Hall Aud A for the free screening!
    Please RSVP by 8am on Wednesday November 9th to fvsa.info@umich.edu to attend the sushi party!

  2. Over the course of four years, 127 men and women from Western Michigan were interviewed about what life is like for them as gay Christians. 8 actors are featured in this film, portraying the interviewees’ own words. Rev. Dr. Fran Mayes, retired pastor of Tree of Life Metropolitan Community Church, and Rev. Deon Johnson of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brighton, will join us for discussion and Q&A after the film.

  2. Filmmakers Sophie Lascelles and Tim Pearce preview their work-in-progress documentary which follows AnDa Union, a group of 14 musicians who all hail from the Xilingol Grassland area of Inner Mongolia, a semi-autonomous region of China. Formed in 2003, AnDa Union is part of a musical movement that is finding inspiration in old and forgotten folk music from the nomadic herdsman cultures of Inner and Outer Mongolia, drawing on a repertoire of music that all but disappeared during China’s recent tumultuous past.

  2. The film “Defiance” tells the true story of the four Bielski brothers, who saved 1,200 lives in Poland (now Belarus) and organized the largest Jewish resistance unit during World War II.

  2. An in-your-face wake-up call, GhettoPhysics shows how the game of life is played—and it’s all the same game! From the corner offices of Wall Street to the inner sanctums of world governments, from the red light districts in the ghettos to the living rooms behind the white-picket fences on Main Street, game is happening. And if you don’t know it, the game is going to roll right over you.
