Mark Cendrowski, Director of The Big Bang Theory, Television Directing Workshop

1. Friday October 29; 4:00 to 6:00PM; Argus II Studio, 400 Fourth Street, Ann Arbor. (Directions: take William Street all the way west of town until it dead ends at the ARGUS II Building.)
2. Mark Cendrowski, UM Alum and Director of such noted television situation comedies as “The Big Bang Theory” and “Two and A Half Men”  will conduct a workshop on television directing at the ARGUS II studio, Friday, October 29, from 4-6PM.   Working with student actors from the Department of Theater and Drama, and scenes from the hit series “The Big Bang Theory,” Mr. Cendrowski’s workshop will focus on blocking actors and coaching performance for multi-camera television production.  He will also answer questions about his career and working in Hollywood as a television series director. All are invited to attend.

2. Government policy prohibits women from fighting in ground combat, so they aren’t trained for it — but that doesn’t mean that they don’t get caught in skirmishes. This compelling documentary about women soldiers in Iraq gives an inside look at the first women in U.S. history to engage in ground combat.

Friends of Dorothy: Oz’s Legacy to the LGBT Community

2. Judy Garland’s portrayal of Dorothy Gale helped make her a gay icon and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” became the gay anthem — a yearning for a home far away from the small-town provincialism of a black-and-white existence. Audience members will join panelists in discussing the historical and ongoing legacy of the Oz books and movies for the shaping of the LGBT psyche.
