  2. Come join us for the Emmy award-winning film adaptation of Randy Shilts’s best-selling chronicle of the emergence of HIV/AIDS in America and the fight against bureaucracy and society for a cure. A group of doctors at the CDC embark on a quest to find the source of HIV and discover a cure, while their efforts are thwarted by an ambivalent government and a turf war between self-interested researchers. This impassioned film stands as animpressive and important document of one of the darkest eras in modern human history and a tribute to the spirit of those who sought to save lives.

The Screen Arts and Cultures Department is holding a student meeting on Friday, Dec 3, from 2-4 PM in Room 2055 North Quad.  Critical information about advising in the Department will be discussed.  There will also be presentations on
- internships
- honors,
-  and departmental funding of student projects.
This is also a great opportunity to meet SAC faculty and hear about their areas of research, creative work , and teaching expertise, to learn about upcoming classes,
Learn about the FVSA (Film Video Student Association), and meet other students concentrating in SAC.
Snacks will be provided.

This meeting is MANDATORY for declared SAC concentrators and for students thinking of concentrating in SAC.

  2. “How I Write,” the speaker series where authors and community members discuss the challenges, strategies, and stories of the writing process returns Monday December 6th in 3222 Angell Hall. “How I Write” is an informal gathering fueled my humor, humility, and curiosity about moving from an idea to a finished product, and the surprises that come along the way. This event is open to the public, but seating is limited.The December 6 event features speakers* Christopher Farah, writer/director of “Answer This!” and UM/English alum

  1. Lightworks Electronic Submission is now open! Due to website difficulties,we are accepting entries this semester through email submission.  Just fill out the form attached (in the designated fields) and send it to: fvsa.info@umich.edu
  2. Forms are due in by *DECEMBER 1ST *at *11:59 p.m*.  Note that this is only electronic sumbission, which means that your actual project does not have to
    be completed for you to turn in this form.  It is for scheduling and project
    information purposes only. 

    *Everyone who is planning to submit to Lightworks must have this form turned
    into the deadline above.* If you do not have access to Microsoft Word, need any other form of submission, or have any questions, feel free to email: cbhanu@umich.edu.

A winner at Sundance Film Festival for Grand Jury Prize (Documentary), Southern Comfort chronicles the final year in the life of Robert Eads, a transman with ovarian cancer living in rural Georgia. His story is one of love and resilience in the face of discrimination. The film follows his personal struggle as he is refused treatment and highlights his colorful life in the transgender community. Documentary is 90 min. with free dinner and post-viewing discussion. Sponsored by OUTbreak and Spectrum Center. Dinner is provided.
